About SRF
Freedom without favor.
Equality without exception.
The Summit for Religious Freedom (SRF) is where the movement for church–state separation and inclusive religious freedom comes alive.
Every spring, people of all religions and none gather for three unforgettable days of community, activist tools, inspiration, and action — united by one belief: a thriving democracy depends on freedom that protects everyone, not just a select few.
SRF isn’t just a conference — it’s a community in motion. Together, we’re resisting Christian nationalism and other extremist threats, building power across movements, and reimagining what inclusive religious freedom looks like in practice.
Why SRF matters
Across the country, extremists are using religion as a weapon — attacking public schools, targeting LGBTQ+ people and communities of color, undermining reproductive freedom, and distorting democracy itself.
SRF is the antidote.
Here, leaders, advocates, organizers, and everyday supporters come together to protect church–state separation, expand inclusive religious freedom, andand build a pluralistic, multiracial democracy grounded in justice and equality.

How SRF is built
SRF is designed around guiding principles that shape every decision we make:
- Expand the table (Big Tent): We’re expanding our movement and making space for diverse voices — across race, age, gender, sexuality, faith, geography, politics, and ability — engaging one another with curiosity and respect.
- Continuous: The work doesn’t stop when the Summit ends. SRF365 keeps momentum going all year.
- Accessible: We remove barriers to participation through scholarships, hybrid access, and inclusive design.
- Sustainable: We model long-term, responsible organizing and environmental care.
- Safer, braver spaces: We cultivate environments for courageous conversations and actions rooted in mutual curiosity and respect, even across our differences.

Our story
Launched in 2023, SRF was created to meet a growing need: national space to unite people across movements to protect church-state separation, defend inclusive religious freedom and fight back against Christian Nationalism and other extremist threats in order to strengthen democracy.
Since then, SRF has grown into a cornerstone of the movement — expanding its reach through SRF365 and SRF Rewind, deepening relationships, and inspiring action year-round.
Convened by Americans United
SRF is convened by Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU), a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization founded more than 75 years ago by religious and non-religious leaders and supported today by people of all religions and none.
AU’s mission — to protect church–state separation as the foundation of religious freedom, democracy, and equality — is at the heart of everything SRF does.
